Network, Network, Network
There is an old saying in business that states, “It isn’t what you know, but who you know,” and that can be very true when it comes to list building. Think about the big names in the internet marketing world. What would you do to get a hold of their email lists? If you knew one of them, had worked with one of them perhaps they may share that list with you.
Then again, they may not. What they might do is introduce you to their lists. In many cases can be even better. Scratching your head on that one? The reason is that if someone that has a solid list that responds to what they have to offer, then sends out them something that you have to offer there is even more value to what you have to offer.
Not only do you have useful information to give, but this person that they trust already says that you are worth taking a look at. There are times that you have to look at others in the industry as competition and times that you need to look at them as your “best friend.” This isn’t to say that you need to start emailing and bugging the big wigs in your industry, all you need to do is get to know a few people in your niche that are already established.
Once you get to know them, learn from them. It is only natural for a mentoring type of relationship to take place. When the time is right you can present your product or idea to them and ask for their help. Tell them that you don’t want their list, but would they consider sharing what you have with their list. There are some that will tell you yes, they want to help you out… there are others that will ask you about entering into a joint venture with them instead.
Joint ventures are not a bad idea. They can turn out to be one of the smartest things you every do if you go in with someone you know and trust. When it comes to networking, lets say that you came up with a great product that you want to offer to people… but don’t know where to start. You know “so and so” who has been around long enough to have a nice list and they may ask for a cut of the profits that you make off of their list.
You may or may not be interested in doing this. Sometimes it is difficult to give up part of your money when you put so much work into it. It can be worth it though if it gets you to the people that are going to buy what you have to offer.
The point that I am trying to make here is that you need to get out and talk to other people in the industry. This can be done in emails, over the phone and even in person. Don’t be afraid to talk to people. Networking does pay off and can be incredibly beneficial. In business, who you know is just as important as what you know.

Freebies – Just Give It Away!
Few people would think the best way to make money is to give things away for free. I would be very tempted to tell you that is the best way to make money in any industry and in any environment, but I am going to stick with the internet world for now.
Of course, when I say free, it is going to cost your visitor something. That something is their name and email address. Which when someone is getting something that is going to be useful to them they are going to more willing to part with those items then they are cash… atleast at first. Once they get the free item and see the value you have given them they are going to want to part with their hard earned cash to get more of what it is you have to offer.
One of my favorite examples of this can be seen in just about any food court in any mall anywhere in the United States. There is almost always someone from a couple of the food places standing out in front of the “restaurant” offering you a taste of their wears for free. The hope is that you will take their sample and be so blown away with the flavor and taste that you will turn tail and stand in line at their place and order your lunch, dinner or maybe a snack from them. Even if you weren’t hungry to begin with the sample tasted so good you just can’t help yourself.
This also happens an awful lot in the internet marketing world. Site after site, they draw you in with an outstanding offer, they tell you all about that offer and then they give you the option of getting an exclusive newsletter or report for free if you “sign up” for it. Some even offer a free course that you can get through your email. I recently did one of these. I was referred to this site by an associate of mine, I thought what they had to say was interesting and very useful to what I do for a living. So I put in my name and email and over the next seven days I was sent a lesson. Each lesson was incredibly useful so it was worth giving that info.
I have to say, that they didn’t try to sell anything on the front end. They were simply giving this course away. Yes, once you gave the info to them you got two emails, one was the lesson and one was a “special offer” just for me. Whether I opted to purchase or not, I still got the ecourse for free.
The point here is that if you give people something that they can use, that improves what they are doing, that is going to make them want more… and you give it to them for free, they are going to be more inclined to pay to get more of what you have to offer.

What is Co-Registration
Let’s face it. Marketing your product online is hard. You did not think you would have to go through so much just to get some traffic to your website. The interesting thing is that many people feel the same way. They have created this great product or service but thought that would be the end of it. They had no clue that they had to put in more time marketing their product than they did creating it!
The world of internet marketing can be intimidating to the regular person. There are so many things to consider and there is a lot of competition out there. You may have heard of a few of these internet marketing techniques and might have even tried a few. There is SOE articles, social network, forum building, e-mail lists and reverse marketing. Through all of these methods you can certainly get more traffic to your website.
And the truth is that without web site hits, your product is a dead product. No one will think of buying it if they are not seeing it. Never mind whether or not the product is actually a good one. Aside from the strategies listed above, there is a new one that has just started buzzing that might be a good one for you to try. It is called co-registration.
What is co-registration? Co-registration is simply a more automated way to build e-mail lists. You have likely tried doing this yourself. You started off with a list of family and friends and then possibly even put a script on your sales page where people could opt-in to your list. At a high level, co-registration is a way of adding the option to opt-in for e-mail lists after the customer has already registered or purchased a product somewhere else. Essentially, you try to “piggy back” registration to your site along with others.
How this works is that you first fine other sites or ezines that are related to yours but are not in competition. You then contact the site administrator to see if they would like to participate in co-registration. You will probably remember that after you purchased something online, you were then asked if you wanted to sign up for notifications to other related information. That is co-registration.
While it does take a little work to get in touch and work with other site administrators, you will quickly find that this type of networking will quickly help you build subscriptions and e-mail lists quickly and easily with less work in the long run. Imagine sitting back and watching your list grow and grow. It will be a list you can use at any time to reinforce information about your product or service.
There are many techniques available to building web site traffic and subscription lists, and there are sub-techniques within those. It is important to know the ins and outs of these techniques so that you can maximize your product sales with as little effort as possible. It is all about driving traffic, and co-registration can be a powerful tool to help you with this.

Use Forums to Build Your List
You have heard that there are a lot of ways to drive traffic to your web site but you are not sure where to start. The world of internet marketing can be frightening when you consider the amount of competition out there in the world. Everyone seems to have a product to sell and they are going above and beyond to do it. However, if you believe in your product and can stay focused on some simple internet marketing techniques, you can beat out the competition.
There are a lot of ways to market your product online. There is viral marketing, SEO articles, offsite optimization, reverse marketing and social networking. All of these are very useful techniques and each have their own “ins and outs”. A part of social networking that you should take a look at is using forums to build your list of potential clients.
A part of social networking is using e-mail lists to market your products to those who are interested and have signed up. But how do you get them to sign up? After all, you do not know very many people on the web, so how do you expose them to your product and entice them to sign up to receive updates from you? One way to do this is through online forums.
How do you use online forums to build your base? It is not as hard as you think and can be quite fun. If you have ever been to a forum, then you know that it is one of the places where debate on any topic can take place. If it is a movie, sports team, or financial guide, forums are great ways for people to connect on just about any topic. It is also a great way for you to market your product.
At the root of forum marketing is the idea that, over time, you build up your knowledge about a topic and show your expertise. If you have the writing skills and savvy, then you can set yourself apart from the rest of the online marketers out there. You first need to pick out some web forums that are exactly about or close in relation to the product you are selling. In your signature, put in links to the site you want people to hit. The rest is fun!
For just a few hours a day, visit those web forums and simply engage in discussions with other people. Over time, you will gain some trusted followers as long as you know what you are talking about. They will learn to trust you and will likely follow the links in your signature. If you are lucky, they will find your product pleasing, sign your e-mail list and probably link to your site and tell friends about your product and site as well.
Of all of the internet marketing strategies, forum promoting can be the most fun. Not only do you have a place to go where you can talk to people that are interested in the same topics as you, but you can promote your product in the process. It is important, however, to know that most message boards are moderated so you do not want to be too overt in your promotions. Being genuine will go a long way to getting cozy with the forum members.
