Freebies – Just Give It Away!
Few people would think the best way to make money is to give things away for free. I would be very tempted to tell you that is the best way to make money in any industry and in any environment, but I am going to stick with the internet world for now.
Of course, when I say free, it is going to cost your visitor something. That something is their name and email address. Which when someone is getting something that is going to be useful to them they are going to more willing to part with those items then they are cash… atleast at first. Once they get the free item and see the value you have given them they are going to want to part with their hard earned cash to get more of what it is you have to offer.
One of my favorite examples of this can be seen in just about any food court in any mall anywhere in the United States. There is almost always someone from a couple of the food places standing out in front of the “restaurant” offering you a taste of their wears for free. The hope is that you will take their sample and be so blown away with the flavor and taste that you will turn tail and stand in line at their place and order your lunch, dinner or maybe a snack from them. Even if you weren’t hungry to begin with the sample tasted so good you just can’t help yourself.
This also happens an awful lot in the internet marketing world. Site after site, they draw you in with an outstanding offer, they tell you all about that offer and then they give you the option of getting an exclusive newsletter or report for free if you “sign up” for it. Some even offer a free course that you can get through your email. I recently did one of these. I was referred to this site by an associate of mine, I thought what they had to say was interesting and very useful to what I do for a living. So I put in my name and email and over the next seven days I was sent a lesson. Each lesson was incredibly useful so it was worth giving that info.
I have to say, that they didn’t try to sell anything on the front end. They were simply giving this course away. Yes, once you gave the info to them you got two emails, one was the lesson and one was a “special offer” just for me. Whether I opted to purchase or not, I still got the ecourse for free.
The point here is that if you give people something that they can use, that improves what they are doing, that is going to make them want more… and you give it to them for free, they are going to be more inclined to pay to get more of what you have to offer.
